Australian star batsman David Warner said Thursday he wanted to play the Boxing Day Test against India in Melbourne and described his injury-related absence from the opening bout in Adelaide as « devastating ». .
Warner hobbled out of Australia’s second one-day international against the tourists last month after straining his groin.
« I’m (hopeful), I never want to miss that, » Warner told Australian sports radio SEN about the Melbourne Test.
« With the big show that it is, missing a test is devastating, but I know the guys who go out there will do their best. «
With just nine days to go to the Melbourne Test, Warner said he plans to step up the intensity of his rehab work.
« Hopefully I can get up and run at a faster pace, » he said.
« I managed to reach up to 14 kilometers per hour (8. 7mph) so I have to work towards a maximum of 26 to 30 kilometers per hour by next week.
« If I can run between the gates and move sideways and do groundwork by the end of next week, I should be ready to go. Fingers crossed. «
