John Mulaney has checked into a rehab facility and is seeking treatment for addiction problems following multiple reports.

Page 6 reported the news first. According to People, the 38-year-old Saturday Night Live writer checked into rehab after relapsing after a long battle with addiction. ET has approached Mulaney’s representative for comment.

Meanwhile, a source reports that Mulaney struggled with his sobriety during the coronavirus pandemic.

In a September 2019 interview with Esquire, Mulaney said he started drinking at the age of 13 and battled addiction in his teens and twenties.

« I drank for attention, » he said. « I was very sociable and at twelve I wasn’t. I didn’t know how to act. And then I drank and was weird again. «

« I never liked smoking. Then I tried cocaine and I really enjoyed it, « he continued. « I wasn’t a good athlete so maybe it was a young man thing from ‘This is the physical feat I can do. Three vicodins and a tequila and I’m still standing. Who is the athlete now? ‘ »

He told the magazine that he stopped drinking alcohol and using cocaine in 2005 at the age of 23 without going into rehab.

« I went on a bend this weekend that was just like fading in and out of a movie, » he recalled of what made him quit. « It was just crazy. A weekend that was . . . I will never tell you. This is mine. I haven’t killed or attacked anyone. But yeah, I thought, ‘You’re out of control. ‘And I was like,’ I don’t like this guy anymore. I am not rooted for him. ‘ »
