TEL AVIV – Former American marine analyst Jonathan Pollard arrived in Israel with his wife early Wednesday after spending 30 years in prison to spy for Israel, a case that sparked years of friction between the two close allies.
Mr. . Pollard and his wife Esther were greeted on the asphalt by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who presented them with their national self. D.. . Cards as they got off the plane.

Mr. . Pollard, now 66, was arrested in 1985 for providing Israel with sensitive military information and sentenced to life imprisonment. He was released in 2015 and placed on a five-year suspended sentence that ended in November, allowing him to exit the U.. S.. .
Mr. . Pollard is American, but Israel granted him citizenship while he was incarcerated. Successive Israeli governments have argued that the life sentence was too harsh for spying on a close ally and that Mr.. . Pollard should be released early.
