TEL AVIV – Former American marine analyst Jonathan Pollard arrived in Israel with his wife early Wednesday after spending 30 years in prison to spy for Israel, a case that sparked years of friction between the two close allies.

Mr. . Pollard is American, but Israel granted him citizenship while he was incarcerated. Successive Israeli governments have argued that the life sentence was too harsh for spying on a close ally and that Mr.. . Pollard should be released early.
