MONTGOMERY, Ala. a???? Marshall and Buffalo will compete in the seventh annual Camellia Bowl, CEO Johnny Williams announced on Sunday morning.

The game is for Friday the 25th. December at 2:30 p.m.. m. and is played at the historic Cramton Bowl in downtown Montgomery. ESPN will broadcast the competition.

We’re going to be hosting two bowl games at the Cramton Bowl in three days and we’re excited to be part of this historic event. â ????

Before the Camellia Bowl, the Montgomery Bowl will be on Wednesday, April 23rd. December, played at 7 p.m.. m. The Montgomery Bowl features the Memphis Tigers and Florida Atlantic Owls.

The teams have won 10 titles in the MAC Eastern Division. Marshall won six straight titles in 1997, 1998, 1999, 2000, 2001 and 2002. Buffalo won four East Division crowns in 2007, 2008, 2018 and 2020.

The teams have met eight times previously, with six of those games being played in the MAC game. Marshall has won all eight meetings with Buffalo. The teams have had a 48:14 win for Thundering Herd on Jan.. October 2004 no longer played. Marshall defeated Buffalo in the first meeting between the two schools on Jan.. October 1963 at 10: 8.

Both teams have excelled in attack and defense this season. Marshall led the nation in goal defense (Dec.. 6), was second in rapid defense (88. 9 yards / game) and came third in overall defense (277. 7). The thundering herd took second place in the league in the scorers list (30). 6) and third in the total offense (407. 2). Buffalo leads the country on a frenzied offensive (309. 5) takes third place in the rating (47). 8) and ninth in the total offense (509. 0). In addition, the bulls take second place in goal defense in the MAC (23). 8) and total defense (379. 2).

Marshall won the 2020 Conference USA Eastern Division Championship, the first since 2014. The Thundering Herd won eight division titles at school, including three titles in the C-USA Eastern Division (2013, 2014, and 2020). The Marshall Offense is spearheaded by the newly minted quarterback Grant Wells, who leads C-USA in passing (219). 7) and touchdown passes (18).

He ranks second in the league with 239. 4 meters per game. Junior runs back Brenden Knox has 887 rushing yards and nine rushing TDs. Herd senior linebacker Tavante Beckett C-USA leads defensively in tackles per game (10. 0) and outperforms the nation in fumbling (4). Redshirt Junior Defensive End Darius Hodge is third in the league in sacks (6. 5) and sixth in duels against the loss (9. 0).

Marshall has played his seventh bowl game for the past eight seasons. The thundering flock is 12-3 (. 800) All-time in 15 bowl games. It is the nation’s highest percentage of profits among teams with at least six bowl games. Marshall makes his eighth appearance under Head Coach 2020 AFCA Region 4 Coach of the Year Doc Holiday, who has an 85-53 (. 616) Record in 10 seasons with the thunder herd.

Marshall ended his 7-game winning streak with a 48:25 loss to UCF in the Gasparilla Bowl. The first bowl game in school history took place in 1997 at the Motor City Bowl. Marshall fell to Ole Miss 34-31. Marshall was also involved in the highest-scoring bowl game in NCAA history. The Thundering Herd, led by Byron Leftwich, bounced back from a 30-point half-time deficit and defeated East Carolina (64-61) in double overtime at the 2001 GMAC Bowl in Mobile, Ala.

Buffalo won the 2020 MAC Eastern Division Championship, the fourth in school history. The Bulls also won titles in the MAC Eastern Division in 2007, 2008, 2018 and 2020.

The headline on the offensive is Jaret Patterson, who set the NCAA record this season with eight quick touchdowns in the 70-21 win over Kent State in November. 28. Patterson finished with 38 transfers for 408 yards and eight touchdowns.

The 408 yards is the most from an FBS player since Samaje Perine of Oklahoma set an NCAA record of 427 yards in defeating Kansas State in 2014. Patterson had 301 yards and four TDs against Bowling Green the week before. For the season, Patterson has 141 transfers for 1. 072 yards and 19 touchdowns in six games.

Buffalo is playing in its fifth bowl game in school history. The Bulls won the first bowl in school history after beating Charlotte 31-9 in the Bahamas Bowl last year. Buffalo made his bowl debut at the International Bowl at the Rogers Center in Toronto in 2008 when UConn defeated Buffalo 38:20.

Buffalo is playing his third straight bowl game under Lance Leipold, who is 36-33 (. 522) Record in six seasons. In total he put together a 146-39 (. 789). He put a 110-6 (. 948) Record in eight seasons at NCAA Division III Wisconsin-Whitewater. He led the school to six Division III national championships in seven years and posted a 34-1 (. 971) NCAA playoff record.

The city of Montgomery is synonymous with bowl games on Christmas Day. The annual Blue-Gray Football Classic was played at the historic Cramton Bowl from 1939 to 2003. The opening game was played on 1. Played January 1939. The blue-gray classic football was first played on Christmas Day 1954. The event became an annual Christmas tradition that began in 1979.

Playing on Christmas Day adds to the excitement of Camellia Bowl, which had some exciting games, with the first six games settling with 25 total points. All six games were decided in the fourth quarter, with three games being decided for the final.
