Terps’ Dec. . 1 game canceled due to the COVID-19 case in Monmouth, originally appeared on NBC Sports Washington
Before the start of the basketball season in Maryland against Old Dominion on Wednesday afternoon, the Terrapins’ fourth season competition against Monmouth was canceled due to a positive coronavirus test as part of the Hawks program.
Monmouth had to cancel its season opener against Hofstra on Wednesday evening as well as its second and third game of the season to allow a full 14-day quarantine.
After Maryland played Old Dominion on Wednesday afternoon, Navy and Mount St. . Mary is in College Park on Sunday before Monmouth’s game is due to take place next Tuesday. Maryland will also be home to George Mason on December. 4 before the trip to play Clemson in the Big Ten / ACC Challenge.
The news came hours after Maryland’s trainer Mark Turgeon confirmed that both the Terps and Old Dominion tested negative before 2:00 p.m.. m. tip.
Before the season started, Turgeon told reporters his team was looking at infections in late August and early September when the students returned to College Park. Now that the school is moving to distance learning with online classes, the less populated Maryland campus should help them stay in full health ahead of a challenging season.
« I’m sure we’ll do everything we can to make it work, » said Turgeon. “We test six days a week. That doesn’t mean we can’t catch it. You know, we all sacrifice, as an athlete and coach you sacrifice anyway. But we know it will be part of our game this year. “
