The majority of cadets cheated on a math test at West Point Military Academy are athletes – including two dozen members of the Army football team, West Virginia is playing at the Liberty Bowl Thursday.
Of the 24 Army Black Knights involved in the scandal, 17 remained in uniform as of Wednesday – and some have already played in games this season, USA Today reported.
You’re staying on the team because West Point Superintendent Lt. . gene. . Darryl Williams suspended the school’s policy of banning cadets who violate the Academy’s code of honor from public representation at the school.
The code of honor is engraved on a memorial at the Hudson River Front School: “A cadet will not lie, cheat, steal, or tolerate those who do so. ”
In total, 55 of the 73 cadets who were betrayed in the school’s calculus test in New York State in May are members of the academy’s sports teams and squads in the biggest fraud scandal in 44 years.
In the current scandal, 58 cadets have already admitted they cheated and will remain on parole during their tenure at West Point.
According to the guidelines of the Academy, cadets found guilty of fraud should not have been found guilty of fraud after Jan.. They will no longer be allowed to play on sports teams on November 11th, the date they were found to be in violation of the Code.
But in an Oct. . In a memo, Williams wrote that for some Cadets the policy « resulted in an unequal application of consequences and development opportunities ».
West Point spokesman Lt. . Col. . Christopher Ophardt told USA Today that the decision was not related to the school’s football season.
