And in a season where Ryan has long been the strong favorite to win the Class 5A Division I title, it’s undeniable that it was an important « W ». they didn’t mind picking up on the way.

Ryan kept high post-season hopes thanks to a near-impenetrable defense and an offensive that did just enough in the first half and on the track to keep the Scots at bay.

Defensively, Highland Park was held to a total of 229 yards. Brayden Schager was under pressure all day which made it incredibly difficult to find a timing downfield with his receivers. After the threat to the big chunk was lifted, the bulkheads suffered three failures most of the night.

Schager only finished 13 of his 33 passes for 165 yards, one touchdown and one interception.

Highland Park (11-1) have been goalless for the past three quarters. After driving to Ryan’s 23-yard line in the middle of the fourth quarter, the Scots were stopped in one game by 7:44 minutes.

Ryan went on to cobble together an offensive ride that pounded nearly five minutes before the clock.

« It feels really good to take revenge on my second loss [in 2018], » quarterback Seth Henigan said. But a lot of our guys weren’t there so it was a new game. It was nothing like the past. We are a new team and we made it. â ????

« We had to do it for the people who lost, » said Hill. We had to do it. â ????

Despite two interceptions, Seth Henigan was incredibly efficient throughout the night as he carried out a crime that accumulated 403 yards and built a 14-0 lead by the end of the first quarter.

Henigan completed 17 of his 28 passes for 260 yards and two touchdowns. After his defense forced Highland Park to forego the game’s opening drive, Henigan drove his team across the field in seven games, ending the drive with a handsome 8-yard touchdown pass to Sanders, who overtook them with a hand for the 7-0 lead.

At 2:10 in the same frame, Henigan, who signed with Memphis, found a bowman wide open for a 61-yard touchdown to put his team 14-0 ahead.

Despite the early lead, the Raiders struggled to blow the game up. Highland Park cut the deficit to one point when Schager found Crockett Corwin for a 29-yard touchdown and there were 20 seconds left in the first frame.

Ryan added a 34 yard field goal when time ran out in the half, then relied on his defense the rest of the way.

The defense did not disappoint. especially against a team that always seemed to have Ryan’s number.

« I’m just proud of the way our kids played, » coach Henigan said. Our coaches had a great plan and of course we played incredibly defensively. We started offensive quickly, which was one of the keys. Start quick and finish halfway. We did both things. We have just enough first downs and then defensively â ???? What a great job from these guys. We knew it was going to be such a game tonight. â ????
