The PS Vita is almost seven years old, but there are still some fans of the Sony handheld console out there. Unfortunately, there have been reports that no one can access the PlayStation Store through this classic handheld console.
Sony’s PS Vita handheld console never really launched outside of Japan. That said, it still had a fair share of fans in the west. These gamers recently discovered (via Push Square) that they cannot access the PlayStation Store at all, which has led many to wonder if they really have terminated access to the console’s online content.
Players attempting to access the PlayStation Store on their PlayStation Vita will receive the error code np-2245-3. This issue was previously resolved by reactivating the console, but this solution no longer works for owners of the handheld.
So what’s up? Well, Sony was essentially saying that it wasn’t about handheld consoles at the end of last year. This followed server shutdowns for many older Sony games, including those on the Vita. More recently, the PlayStation Store had made some important changes in preparation for the launch of the new PS5 console, and this may be the problem.
Fortunately, the community around this console is very involved and has already found a way to download their old games. However, given the lack of an announcement and the length of this outage, concerns remain as to whether or not this is a temporary technical issue or a permanent closure of the PlayStation Store for PS Vita. We asked Sony for a comment and will update this article as soon as we receive a response.
