Former Indian Premier League (IPL) chairman Rajeev Shukla is likely to become Vice President of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), while former Indian cricketer Brijesh Patel is slated for a second term as an IPL -Chairman will act.
The Indian Express assumes that the board members have decided not to hold elections, but to fill the vacant positions by unanimous decisions. The BCCI will be at its annual general meeting on 24. December in Ahmedabad elect their Vice President and two members of the IPL Government Council.
It is known that everyone has voted in favor of Shukla’s election as the next vice president and he will submit his nomination on Thursday.
Shukla was not a BCCI officer before, but was secretary of the Uttar Pradesh Cricket Association (UPCA) until 2017. Until 2018 he was also the IPL chairman.
The Election Commissioner is believed not to have considered Shukla’s tenure as IPL Chair to determine the reflection period as it was considered a subcommittee of the Administrative Board prior to the adoption of the Lodha Committee’s recommendations a year ago.
Shukla was the UPCA candidate for the BCCI General Assembly and his candidacy was approved by the BCCI Electoral Officer in the final list made available to members.
In a statement, Board Secretary Jay Shah has informed all members to undergo RT-PCR tests that detect Covid-19 before they come to the AGM. The board will test them again in Ahmedabad before they are allowed to attend the general assembly.
