Country artist Morgan Wallen performed as a musical guest on December. 5 episodes of NBC’s « Saturday Night Live » after being removed from the show this fall for violating health and safety protocols during the COVID-19 pandemic. An event that Wallen and the late night sketch comedy series had fun with itself.
Wallen took the stage in Studio 8H to also portray himself in a sketch where he walked into a bar at the University of Alabama, held a beer in his hand and put his face around his neck. « To no consequence! » he shouted with his beer high over his head as he entered.
Chloe Fineman portrayed a fan who asked him if they could kiss and film each other but remarked that she would only post him on Tik Tok. This, of course, was proof that the show’s staff were not taking minutes seriously as early as October, which resulted in his being unable to perform in October. 10 episodes as originally planned. But as they kissed, guest host Jason Bateman ran through the doors of the bar as « future Morgan » in a haze of « time travel smoke » to warn Wallen that the video would come out, even though he asked the young woman not to do it such a thing.
The real Wallen was gentleman and said executive producer Lorne Michaels would never kick him off the show for something like that, to which Batemans Wallen replied, « No, of course Lorne wouldn’t because he’s not a hangover. he’s a bloody man; He has balls the size of Toyotas. But the managers at NBC are going to force his hand, brother. ”
The real Wallen then showed some remorse and said he didn’t want to let his fans down and asked Batemans Wallen what happens to COVID in the future.
« I don’t know, I’m only coming from a month in the future, » he said. “You partied so hard, this is how you look like a month. ”
Bowen Yang came in as Wallen from two months into the future, where we are now from the events of the bar. « I have come to warn you to leave this party immediately, » he said to the real Wallen. « And you, » he continued, turning to Bateman’s walls. « I warned you about the experimental skin regimen that you are going to try. It could make you too hot. ”
Pete Davidson also appeared in the sketch as a guy in the bar who happened to be dressed like the various versions of Wallens and came in through a cloud of smoke – « but it was grass, » he said. He assured Wallen that things would be fine with “SNL” because “there aren’t too many people ready to fly to New York right now. ”
The real Wallen in the sketch said he was inspired to write a new song called “Focus on the Future” and he immediately started singing it: “It’s hard to focus on the future / when the present is full girl / if you just kiss all day / then you’ll miss the world / so let’s all raise a glass / and thank you in advance / for giving this poor boy from the south a second Yankee chance. ”
As a musical guest in December. Wallen also played two of his songs in 5 episodes: « 7 Summers » and « Still Goin Down ». ”
“Saturday Night Live” will be broadcast live from coast to coast on Saturdays at 11:30 pm. m. ET / 8:30 p. m. PT on NBC.
