BALTIMORE (WJZ) – Multiple people are injured in a city fire that reports an explosion in the BGE building in downtown Baltimore.

Eyewitnesses say they heard a large explosion before seeing scaffolding fall from the building on West Fayette and Lexington Streets.

A rescue is underway as two workers who may have been cleaning windows are now clinging to the remaining scaffolding outside the skyscraper. Baltimore Fire confirms that six or seven people were injured in the incident.

The incident occurred in the 16th century, according to the city’s fire service union. floor. Firefighters are working to rescue the people who may be trapped inside and the workers who are holding onto outside the building.

Roads have been closed in the area and motorists are being asked to choose alternative routes.
