World News – USA – The return of the winds in Santa Ana warns of the red flag

LOS ANGELES – As of Wednesday, the winds from Santa Ana should return to Southland and trigger a warning of extreme fire hazard.

The National Weather Service has issued a red flag warning for most of the valleys and mountains of Los Angeles County and Inland Orange Counties as of 6:00 p.m.. m. Wednesday until 6 p.m.. m. Friday and until 10 p.m.. m. Saturday in the Santa Clarita Valley and Santa Monica Mountains.

As of Wednesday, the winds from Santa Ana will return to the Southland&nbsp and warn of extreme fire hazard.

Low humidity in combination with strong winds increases the risk of forest fires despite moderate temperatures in the 60s and 70s.

A wind report is valid until Wednesday noon in downtown Los Angeles and until midnight in the valleys. Gusts of 45 miles per hour are expected in the San Fernando and Santa Clarita valleys and up to 50 miles per hour in the mountains.

« Gusty north-northeast winds for the next few nights and mornings will turn mostly northeast for the second half of the week. Damaging winds over the mountains in Santa Ana are possible between Thursday and Friday, ”the NWS said on Tuesday.

The wind event again increases the possibility of power outages. Southern California’s Edison warned Tuesday that some customers could be affected by public safety blackouts, where electricity is turned off in areas particularly affected by the wind to prevent equipment damage that could start fires.

« A major Santa Ana strengthening event is still scheduled Wednesday night through Thursday, then through Friday with a slow and gradual slowdown over the weekend, » the NWS said.

« Gusts should peak between 45 and 65 miles per hour . . . with a minimum humidity between 8 and 15 percent on Thursday and 5 and 10 percent on Friday to Sunday. «

Forecasters said red flag warnings could be issued as early as Wednesday night in the Los Angeles area, potentially lasting through Friday or Saturday.

« There is a chance red flag conditions could last through Tuesday if the dry air persists, but wind projections are still very uncertain, » the NWS said.

The fire station affects the San Fernando and Santa Clarita Valleys and the Santa Monica Mountains Recreation Area.

Southern California Edison warned Tuesday that some customers could be affected by public safety blackouts, where electricity is turned off in areas particularly affected by the wind to prevent damage to equipment that could start fires.

« We understand that turning off your power supply is a difficulty, especially in the middle of a pandemic and when most people are at home. We are working to limit the number of customers shut down due to public safety power outages, « said Vik Trehan, SCE director and incident commander, in a statement.

« We know this is especially difficult for customers who lost power to PSPS during the Thanksgiving holiday and who live in areas with high winds and increased risk of forest fires. These PSPS were initiated to reduce the risk of forest fires and to protect communities from the risk of forest fires. «

Residents can visit www for more information about the shutdowns and to see if they are in an area that is considered for blackouts. sce. com / psps.
