The following is a transcript of an interview with Symone Sanders, senior advisor and spokesman for Vice President-Elect Kamala Harris, that aired on Sunday, Jan.. November 2020, via « Face the Nation ». «
MARGARET BRENNAN: Me . . . I . . . I am great. I wanted to ask what you expected tomorrow because this is the Pennsylvania state deadline for many counties to confirm their election results. This would override a key condition in the president’s attempts to reverse the election result. Do you expect to see the President-elect statement this week?
SANDERS: Well MARGARET, we expect counties in Pennsylvania to certify their results, just like the people of Georgia did, just like the people of Michigan, in this country. The American people were clear and Joe Biden will be the next President of the United States of America. We hope that GSA Administrator Murphy will do her job legally and see the results of these elections. You know MARGARET, I think it’s important for the people at home to understand that if you don’t state there are important things that don’t happen. Chief among them – I’ve just finished your interview with Dr. . Fauci. Most important among them is our ability to coordinate with current government officials, to really get into the federal government and see under the hood. A vaccine is coming very, very soon. Vaccine distribution will fall into the hands of a Biden government.
SANDERS: And with every single moment that there is a delay in detection, every single moment that our people are unable to work with current government officials jeopardizes the effective distribution of this vaccine.
MARGARET BRENNAN: You are an advisor to the Vice President-Elect. As the current Vice President, will she be responsible for the Administration’s COVID Task Force?
SANDERS: Well MARGARET, I don’t want to be ahead of the President-Elect or Vice-President-Elect on portfolio announcements, but I can absolutely assure you that she has been an important partner to the President. choose during this transition. As you’ve probably heard. We’re going to announce – the President-Elect and Vice-President-Elect will announce some of their first cabinet elections this Tuesday. And they really dug into that partnership. So you can bet that COVID-19 will be a daily target and focus of this administration and the elected Vice President will be a key partner in this work.
SANDERS: Picks, yes, there will be cabinet nominations on Tuesday. I can’t tell you how now . . .
SANDERS: – many or who, but I can tell you that the president-elect is starting to put his cabinet together. And the American people will see it for the first time on Tuesday.
MARGARET BRENNAN: I want to ask you about COVID. As you said, the Biden government has to distribute the majority of those doses of a vaccine. The Vice President, the President-elect, criticized, as I should say, the Trump administration’s current plan to use trading companies, retailers and dozens of pharmacies to distribute the vaccine. He said this week that there are many of them who are not in rural communities and are not in poor communities, African American and Latin American communities. What alternative does he suggest to distribute the vaccine?
SANDERS: Well, MARGARET, when the President-elect frankly recognized a weakness that we’ve seen in the Trump administration when it comes to distribution, whether it’s personal protective equipment or those PPP funds for small business in our country, it has not reached the people who need it most. So it shouldn’t be lost to people, rural communities, urban communities, African American and Latin American communities, Native American communities, who are hardest hit by this virus. And so, in a Biden Harris administration, this vaccination distribution plan is not just going to be based on these outside trading companies, but really is putting together a plan that is centered on the federal government on how to reach the people who need it the most.
SANDERS: However, MARGARET, I go back to my previous note about the lack of GSA detection.
SANDERS: You know, I wish I could tell you about the distribution plan we made with current government officials, but I can’t because we don’t have a determination. Therefore these discussions do not take place.
MARGARET BRENNAN: Well, we look forward to the answer to that question. Thank you Symone Sanders for joining us today. We’ll be back in a moment with a lot more FACE THE NATION. stay with us.
