District judges in Uttar Pradesh will publish the list of reserved seats for all posts in the upcoming Gramm-Panchayat election in the state on Tuesday. The list enables candidates to know the seats from which they are eligible to take the polls. However, the final list will not be published until March 15, once any objections have been resolved.

Uttar Pradesh’s Prime Minister Yogi Adityanath had set a rotation formula for the reservation, according to which the places previously reserved for planned caste (SCs), planned tribes (STs) and other backward classes (OBCs) will not be reserved for the same categories this year.

Under the new formula, seats will be reserved for categories based on their population, the Hindustan Times reported > The three-stage Panchayat elections are due to take place in April and a total of 57,207 heads will be elected.

In February, the Allahabad Supreme Court ordered the UP Electoral Commission to conduct the polls by April 30th. The court had declined the state’s promise to hold elections by May 2021, adding that, according to the mandate of the constitution, the elections should have taken place before January 31 of this year.

The five-year term of Gramm and Dorf- Panchayat heads ran out in December last year, whereupon the state asked the district administration to take over, according to the PTI news agency.

Uttar Pradesh currently has 826 Vikas Khands (development blocks) and 58,194 grams of Sabhas with 7,31,813 stations . The Kshetra Panchayats have 75,855 wards while the state’s 75 Zila Panchayants have 30,051 wards.

According to the Hindustan Times report, Manoj Kumar Singh, additional chief secretary of Panchayati Raj, said 330 places will be reserved for STs, 12,045 for SCs and 15,712 for OBCs from the total gram panchayats, adding that the reservation is based on the percentage of their population.
