Conference tournaments add to the early mayhem of March Madness, and both Cleveland State and UW Milwaukee saw a lot of it to make it to the Horizon League semifinals in Indianapolis on Monday.
Cleveland State survived triple overtime against IPFW with Al Eichelberger’s 3-point shot in the last five seconds of the second overtime, while UW Milwaukee was able to make up a 24-point deficit in the last 6:16 of the second half of his game against Wright State and was an underdog with 13 Points to win.
UW Milwaukee ranks 320th in the nation on 3-point gun defense, and Cleveland State has attacked, scoring more than 70 points in nine of its last 10 games after being in the averaged 65.9 points per game in the first 14 competitions.
UW Milwaukee has exceeded the 80-point plateau in each of the last six games. The Panthers rank second in possessions per game on this track, having previously ranked 97th in that stat.
Cleveland State has only played two of its last 10 games below the grand total and is among the teams of Division I ended up in the bottom 10 of Division I in the 2-point shooting rate of the opponents in this distance. UW Milwaukee has seen each of its last nine games exceed the grand total. Add everything and Monday’s meeting numbers to get the high score.
