The race for the vacant crown of the V8 supercars begins this weekend on the famous Mt. Panorama track in Bathurst. Three-time reigning champion Scott McLaughlin has moved to IndyCars.
Jamie Whincup also announced that this would be his final season as a full-time driver before replacing Roland Dane as Triple Eight team principal.
With 10 titles in between McLaughlin and Whincup, who has a record of 7 crowns, is crying out to the sport for a new figurehead to replace those V8 powerhouses. Who will rise from the shadows to take their coat at the Bathurst 500?
In contrast to the regular visit of the supercars on Mount Panorama for the Bathurst 1000, the event this weekend is not an enduro race. Instead, it is exclusively the regular field that completes a 40-lap race every day.
The sprint pair is accompanied by a qualification and a top 10 shootout for each individual race. On Friday February 26th there will be two training sessions for drivers to get in shape. The regular Bathurst 1000 takes place on the weekend of October 7-10.
The entire opening game of the championship series – practice, qualification and both races – will be broadcast live by Fox Sports.
This means that Foxtel iQ , Foxtel Now, and Kayo Sports are your viewing options, along with a new option, Kayo Freebies. Channel 7, the new free-to-air channel this year, only reports on the weekend promotion.

Yes , some of it. Channel 7 signed a 5-year contract with V8 Supercars as a free-to-air broadcast partner last September, replacing the 10 network. Channel 7 will show half of this year’s 12 races, including the Bathurst 500 Saturday and Sunday promotion. It will also be available through the 7plus streaming option.
New to the streaming scene this year is Kayo’s free Kayo option Freebies. Starting with the Bathurst 500 on February 26th, the « FREEBIE » tagged content from Kayo Sports will be available without providing credit card details.

In the absence of Scott McLaughlin, bookmakers Holdens have Shane van Gisbergen as a favorite at Mt. Panorama. However, we believe that McLaughlin’s old sparring partner Jamie Whincup has an excellent chance of winning the V8 Supercars inaugural event. Knowing this will be his final season before whincup dons the helmet, Whincup will be determined to cut a fine figure.
The 37-year-old has won a record 7 Supercars titles and knows how to do done its job. Ford trio Cameron Waters, Will Davison and Anton De Pasquale will hold the Holden Aces honestly, but we’re going to tip Whincup to get his swan song year off to a flying start.
