A 5-foot MONSTER crocodile was removed from Darwin Harbor, and rangers say the 500-pound animal is their biggest catch so far this year.
The NT Parks and Wildlife crocodile management team removed the massive saltie from a trap in West Arm this morning.
Ranger Tom Nichols said the crocodile is believed to be the same large crocodile inhabitants around Mandorah that reported sightings this year.
« It’s four feet long, it’s pretty fat, and part of its tail is missing. So it’s a big animal and we had to tie it next to the boat because it’s too heavy, » he said.
« He’s got a few scars and his jaws are a bit broken. As an animal of this size, he’s probably had a few fights in his life.
« This is one of those years we have had large numbers of crocodiles in excess of ten feet, especially in the Gun Point area where people have been swimming. »
« We brought two big animals out there, one 3.52 m and the other 3.6 m. »
He said rangers also found crocodile nests in unusual areas, including one near Durack and one near the old dump.
