Two teams heading in opposite directions will meet on Thursday (Jan. 28, 10:10 p.m. EST) when the Golden State Warriors visit the Phoenix Suns. The Warriors play back-to-back game winners, including a 123-111 win over Minnesota on Wednesday, while the Suns have lost three straight wins, including a 5-point loss to OKC on Wednesday.

Despite its current struggles, Phoenix opened as a 1.5 point favorite in one game with a modest total of 219.5. The Suns have played their last two games without top scorer Devin Booker and his injured Achilles tendon could get him out of the way again for this meeting. Wednesday’s loss to Donner was marred by poor shooting and sloppy play. Phoenix only depressed 37.9% of his looks and made 15 turnovers, resulting in 20 OKC points.

He blew a 17 point lead and wasted Chris Paul’s best 32 points of the season against his former club. The future Hall of Famer had the chance to tie the game with: 10 remaining, but balloons a 3-point attempt to maintain the Thunder lead.

The Suns have now lost five of their last six and in two Playing without a Booker only got 209 points despite their previous game going into double overtime.

James Jones, GM of Suns, says on @AZSports that « hopefully » Devin Booker will be back for tomorrow’s game against the Warriors, but they will know more tomorrow after the shootaround.

They rank 13th in points per 100 possessions, 15th in field goal percentages, and 18th outside the arc. Unsurprisingly, those offensive pedestrian numbers resulted in most games falling below the total, including Wednesday’s competition against OKC. The under is 3-2 in Phoenix’s last five games and 10-6 this season. Golden State meanwhile drove over the Timberwolves to a double-digit win for the second time in three nights. Rookie James Wiseman hit a career high of 25 points in his new bench role, while Kelly Oubre Jr. scored 20 and Stephen Curry scored 16 points to get 8 assists and 6 rebounds.

Curry’s performance was his lowest in eight games and that for the first time since January 10th he did not reach 20 points. He was only 6 out of 17 off the field and 4 out of 11 out of 3 two nights after splashing 36 against the same team.

When you think of the Warriors, you automatically assume they are one of the teams with the highest Scores are in the league, but that’s not the case. They rank 20th in points per 100 possessions, 20th in percentage of field goals and are the only team in the league with a win record and negative points differential.

Surprisingly, their defense has surpassed expectations this season and occupies 14th place in points against, 9th place in blocks and 3rd place in percent of the opposing field goal.

The competition on Thursday is the lowest total in a Warriors game of the entire season, but it gives reason to believe it could stay below 219.5. Six of Golden State’s nine games after one win have fallen below the grand total, and they’re just weeks away from a track where five consecutive competitions have failed.

Yes, both games against Minnesota are over, but the Timberwolves are cruel defensively. Only three teams allow more points per 100 possessions than Minny, and only four teams get a higher percentage of the shooting.

Despite the fighting in Phoenix, they actually played quite well defensively. They rank eighth in points allowed per game and nine of their 12 conference games are below the total.
