The Washington Monument will be closed to contain the tide of the COVID-19 pandemic, the National Parks Service said.
The 555 foot high marble obelisk tower, construction of which was completed in 1884, was closed on January 11 for safety reasons due to the inauguration.
The memorial will reopen when the NPS deems it safe, depending on Public Health Conditions in Washington, DC
The decision to close the memorial means all indoor attractions that are part of the National Mall and Memorial Parks are now closed due to COVID-19, said the NPS. Outdoor monuments are not affected.
