World news – Web reaction: Orlando grabs Brooklyn’s winning streak

The Brooklyn Nets competed in an unbeaten run of six games on Friday night, but the Orlando Magic amazingly prevented the Nets from taking first place in the Eastern Conference.

Both came in the first half Teams out the gates and shot lights out. Half the magic and the nets shot over 50 percent from the field. Kyrie Irving quickly picked up 24 points while Aaron Gordon kept up with 21 points.

In the second half, the nets came out terribly defensive. The Magic had a total of 103 points at the end of the third period. Brooklyn only scored 84. That left the team with only the final phase of the comeback after a huge deficit.

In the fourth quarter, Brooklyn managed to cut Orlando’s lead to seven, with seven minutes remaining. Unfortunately for Steve Nash’s squad, some key shots were missing in the last five minutes and it was enough for the magic to squeeze through and take the 121-113 win.

Kyrie Irving was very efficient with his shooting from the field and a lot of that has to do with his great shot selection lately. Against the Magic, Irving was off the field 19-31, scoring 43 points. In the game against the Boston Celtics not so long ago, Uncle Drew left the field 13:18 to score 34 points. Before the All-Star hiatus, Irving was in a slump in cold shooting so he had games like this again, a good sign for this Nets team.

As noted, the Nets have increased the deficit to four , and there were seven minutes left in the fourth quarter. It was like the game was right for Brooklyn, but they lost anyway. Bruce Brown mentioned during the post-game press conference that he had never seen Joe Harris the way he did this final stage. So this was new to everyone.

At the end of the first quarter on Friday evening, the Nets only scored 29 points while they gave up 35. On Wednesday night, Brooklyn scored 25 points against the Pacers while giving up 40. Those slow starts are becoming a trend for this Nets team and that’s something fans aren’t used to during this hot run. Players like Bruce Brown and Landry Shamet suggested that ‘fatigue’ likely had an impact on how the squad played in these past few games, but at the end of the day who knows.

Joe Harris: « We just try to come out every night and win.  »

Brooklyn Chases Javale Mcgee; Javale McGee: « If a team comes and gets me, that’s what it is. »
