World news – WEC Portimao postponed, season starts in Spa

The season opener of the 2021 FIA World Endurance Championship in Portimao has been postponed from April 4 to June 13 due to the ongoing travel restrictions in connection with COVID-19 in Portugal.

The ninth season of the FIA WEC begins on May 1st in Spa-Francorchamps behind closed doors. The prologue test will take place from April 26th to 27th.

In round 2 the 6 hours of Monza will take place, which will take place in mid-July. Portimao is now the last race before the planned 24 Hours of Le Mans on August 21 and 22 (with the test day on August 15). The Automobile Club de l’Ouest announced yesterday that the 24 Hours will be postponed from June, to give a higher chance that spectators can participate.

The last two rounds of the WEC season 9, which will take place in Fuji (Japan) and Bahrain, remain unchanged.
