1st ODI report: Sri Lanka collapsed after the batsman opened. Danushka Gunathilaka was issued for obstruction of the field and lost in the first one-day international match against the West Indies on Wednesday.

Gunathilaka made 55 and landed 105 in an opening stand with captain Dimuth Karunaratne, which seemed to put Sri Lanka on a phenomenal course after losing the throw and being sent in.

Karunaratne was out for 52, trapped and bowling by West Indies captain Kieron Pollard with his second shipment.

The match got a bad mood when Gunathilaka in 21st The game blocked the field when he stepped on the ball while Pollard tried to prevent a run-out.

Pollard threw a short ball, which Gunathilaka blocked. Pathum Nissanka made his way to a single, but Gunathilaka sent him back and stepped back into his own fold. He kicked the ball and threw it backwards.

Pollard immediately appealed and the referee on the field, Joe Wilson, gave a low signal before the TV referee Nigel Guguid decided that Gunathilaka had deliberately tried to to thwart the outlet. There seemed little evidence that the batsman acted on purpose.

The Sri Lankan innings got lost from then on, and the tourists were all out for 232 in 49 overs. The West Indies topped that figure with Shai Hope, 110, and opening partner Evin Lewis, 65. « We got off to a good start, but we lost a couple of doors, » said Karunaratne. “In the end we were missing 30-40 runs. If Danushka and I could have fought longer it would have been a different story. «

» You could just get singles and turn the strike, « he said. “Shai made a start and he fought well. We kept losing wickets in our innings. “

Pollard acknowledged that the opening of the Sri Lankan Openings in quick succession for a total of 105 and 112 altogether changed the innings and game. Angelo Mathews (5) followed at 119 and Nissanka (8) when Sri Lanka was 126-4.

Half a century of Ashen Bandara picked up the sum from Sri Lanka but lacked support. Dinesh Chandimal, 12, and Lakshan Sandakan, 16, were the only other batsmen in Sri Lanka to reach double digits.

« They were 100 with no loss and we saw a chase of 300, » said Pollard. “We thought we had to increase the intensity in the field. « They lost a couple of wickets and it started the slide. »

« For us in white ball cricket, Hope is the guy, » he said. « He’s got a role and he gives us the foundation and others can beat around him. »
