World news – When does summer time end?

0

It is the time of year when we bring summer, beach days and endless nights to bed and enjoy the long, cold days, more time indoors and extra layers on our bodies and beds.

While the thought of this may be nightmarish to some, others can find comfort in that short extra hour that marks the end of summer time to help us get through the bleak months.

This weekend, residents of Victoria, NSW, ACT, South Australia and Tasmania will set their clocks back an hour and join other states that choose to keep standard time during the summer period.

Daylight saving time ends this Sunday, April 4th. The clock goes back an hour at 3 a.m., which means that you will see 2 a.m. twice when you are awake. This also means that you gain an extra hour on your long Easter weekend.

Make sure to turn your watch back an hour at 3 a.m. if you live in Victoria, NSW, ACT, SA, and Tasmania.

Smartphones and digital devices that are synchronized with time zones are automatically adjusted, but old-school devices or devices without smart technology need to be changed manually.

The above states have six months for the extra sunlight to return during the spring daytime. This year’s summer time starts on Sunday, October 3rd. The clocks are set an hour forward and bring in the warmth of summer.

Summer time has been a feature of Australian life since at least 1971. All states and territories except Queensland, Western Australia and Northern Territory have adopted the system.

WA has tested summer time several times and held four referendums on the issue, most recently in 2009 when voters rejected the concept.

Queensland retested daylight saving time in the 1970s and then for three years from 1989, ending in a referendum in 1992 when the proposal was again rejected.

The Northern Territory hasn’t tested daylight saving time since World War II, and the view doesn’t seem to have piqued much interest there.
