Mikel Arteta has announced that Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang missed the FA Cup clash between Arsenal and Southampton due to a « personal matter ».
The Arsenal captain was appointed for the trip to St. Mary’s on Excluded from the Gunners’ squad Saturday.
Gabriel Martinelli, Eddie Nketiah and Nicolas Pepe were selected in attack by Arteta, with Alexandre Lacazette and Bukayo Saka on the bench.
« He [Aubameyang] had in the last Hours of personal concern and we had to send him back, « Arteta announced ahead of the game.
Elsewhere, Kieran Tierney and Emile Smith Rowe were not called up and were given up before Arsenal’s Premier League clash with Southampton rested next Tuesday.
Mat Ryan, who signed his move from Brighton on Friday, was benched alongside Arsenal’s other substitute goalkeeper Alex Runarsson.
