On the final night of the New Japan Cup 2021, Will Ospreay defeated Shingo Takagi in the final and won the tournament. Ospreay was able to score victory with the Storm Breaker. Ospreay pulled out all the stops, including a 450 splash out and through a table.
This is the first time in his career that Ospreay has won the New Japan Cup. With this win, Ospreay faces Kota Ibushi in the first fight of the IWGP World Heavyweight Championship. This match will take place on April 4th at the Ryogoku Sumo Hall in Sakura Genesis 2021.
After the match, Ospreay told Ibushi that he needed the IWGP World Heavyweight Title and said he loved the title more than anything . To prove how much he loved the title, he beat his girlfriend Bea Priestley.
Ospreay defeated Hiroyoshi Tenzan, Zack Saber Jr., SANADA and David Finlay in his run to the finals before defeating Shingo for the tournament to win.
