William Shatner, who played Captain Kirk in the popular Star Trek series, is celebrating his 90th birthday by preserving his legacy of artificial intelligence.
The Jewish-Canadian actor has announced that he will be producing an AI version of himself using StoryFile, an interactive storytelling app. Shatner joins the new app as a brand ambassador and becomes the first person to be featured in an AI-powered video.
« For all of my children and all of my children’s children and all of my children’s loved ones and all of my family’s loved ones. This is my gift to you over time, » Shatner said of the project.

The video, which will be available from May 2021, is not a recorded conversation or a « deep fake ». By using innovative technologies such as natural language processing, StoryFile creates an interactive experience for the participants – « Videos that talk back », is the company’s slogan.
« Generations can have a conversation with William Shatner now and in the future, » said the company, which is scheduled to start in June 2021.
“Who better to show the world how StoryFile Life works than William Shatner, a man the world knows to expand our imaginations about the future and life in this universe and beyond. A man who has always been generous in sharing the ups and downs and who has mastered the art of storytelling, ”Stephen Smith, co-founder of StoryFile, told Entertainment Weekly.
StoryFile announced that it will also partner with civil rights activists and Holocaust survivors to preserve their legacies, memories and stories.
« This is changing the way the future will go – how we experience life today and how we share these lessons and stories for generations to come, » Heather Maio-Smith, Co-Founder and CEO of StoryFile, told Entertainment Weekly.
Shatner has always spoken about his Jewish upbringing, particularly his anti-Semitic experience growing up in Montreal, Quebec.
In a 2018 interview with the Sydney Morning Herald, Shatner described the “value system” he developed as a Jew.
“People give. Be generous and charitable. Learning is an important aspect of being Jewish and connecting with other Jewish people. There are so few that it helps that everyone helps one another. “
