World news – WINTERBOTTOM: WE ARE NOT JUST ONE-OFFS – Auto Action

Yesterday, Mark Winterbottom finished fourth with Team 18 and believes this proves the Victorian squad knows where to find the pace week after week.

Mark Winterbottom came back from the first weekend on the fast-flowing Mount Panorama Circuit with two top-5 placements, and at the stop-start Sandown delivered another layout.

« We were fast all day, » Winterbottom told Auto Action. « I feel good, I feel like the car is doing what I want.

In the opening stint of the race, Winterbottom was on the attack when he finished second, forcing race director Cameron Waters to defend his position.

The first three places were on the same lap of the race, where Winterbottom jumped Jamie Whincup and was beaten by both Chaz Mostert and Anton de Pasquale.

Frosty believes it cost him dearly to get on Dick Johnson Racing driver to work past.

« I overheated the tire behind de Pasquale and then had to pass him and Chaz, » explained Winterbottom.

Winterbottom admits it was his decision to put the two tires on to use the right side of the Commodore in the mandatory pit stop instead of the rear wheels, and that wasn’t the right decision.

« You put either in the back or on the side because we’re short for tires, » he said. « We probably didn’t Got it right, that was my call. I thought it was better to just play sides, but I don’t think it was for me. I overheated the tires. « 

In the opening stint, » Frosty « was one of the fastest drivers on the track and forced front runner Waters to drive defensively.
