Yaphet Kotto, a critically acclaimed method actor who starred in Homicide: Life on the Street, the science fiction thriller Alien, and the James Bond film Live and Let Die, is in Died at the age of 81. The Jewish actor best known for when Robert De Niro appeared in the comedy thriller ‘Midnight Runto’, he was married three times. His current wife, Tessie Sinahon, used social media to share, “I am sad and still in shock to have my husband, Yaphet, passed away at 24 years old.” The Emmy-nominated actor died on Monday March 15th.

Yaphet Kotto was born on November 15, 1939 in New York City and raised by his mother, Gladys Marie, a US Army nurse and officer. According to his son, originally called Njoki Manga Bell, his father is Avraham Kotto, a Cameroonian businessman who immigrated to the United States in the 1920s.
At 16, Kotto went to Actors Mobile Theater Studio to do acting studying, and three years later he set out to make his professional acting debut in ‘Othello’. Did you know he got his first project on Broadway where he appeared in « The Great White Hope »?
Kotto has played a number of cult roles on television and in films, including his Primetime Emmy-nominated performance for President Idi Amin Dada in « Raid on Entebbe », Lieutenant Al Giardello in the NBC television series « Homicide: Life on the Street » (1993) -1999) and the unforgettable villain Dr. Kananga / Mr. Groß in the James Bond film « Live and Let Die (1973) ».
Yaphet Kotto married three times, first in 1959 with Rita Ingrid Dittman, a German immigrant. The couple had three children and were eventually divorced in 1976.
Later, in 1965, Kotto allegedly married his second wife Toni Pettyjohn and also had three children. Kotto and Pettyjohn divorced in 1989.
The actor « Raid on Entebbe » remarried Tessie Sinahon on July 12, 1998. According to a report, the then 50-year-old couple Kotto and his wife Sinahin, who was born in the Philippines, met in 1983. The report indicated that the happy encounter took place at an airport and that the « meet-cute » ended in five years of advertising, which eventually led to their marriage.
