With these championships, it’s time to get down to business Focus FCS Spring Football. Let’s start by putting the spotlight on defending FCS national champions North Dakota State.
To do justice to North Dakota state, calling them the defending champions is a pretty big understatement. The program has won eight of the last nine national FCS championships and has a great chance of continuing that trend this year. Let’s look at both her and her first week opponent to find the best bet to start the season on a winning note.

While it is understandable to be careful with a new center quarterback, the state of North Dakota has more than enough talent to protect Noland. He will rely on the star receiver Christian Watson as well as the All American offensive against Cordell Volson in the preseason. The bison is returning a total of nine offensive starters and by the end of this game should look pretty similar to last year’s explosive attack.
Youngstown State is listed as an underdog with 23.5 points, and that’s exactly how you want to start as the new head coach . Doug Phillips is taking on a program that hasn’t played in the FCS playoffs since 2016 and is likely to face a rocky road this season. No game is harder than the start against the powerhouse North Dakota State. The strategy will likely be to run the ball, bleed the clock, and keep the loss margin close enough to rally your team for a moral victory.

Joe Craycraft is the seasoned quarterback and he’s fine. Similar to the Youngstown team, it can be called good. Secondary school is decent and there are some playmakers, but this isn’t a team likely to win a track meet with anyone, let alone an elite program like NDSU. Craycraft is a junior who has only completed 52% of his college passports. Expect him to spend most of the game completing handoffs for a stable with running backs. It is unlikely that the penguins can score enough points to compete in this game.
The number will only increase after the whistle. Here is the recommendation to bet sooner rather than later. Youngstown State will do its best to shorten the game, but it probably won’t matter.
