Rogers Communications Inc. . , Owner of Toronto Blue Jays and the real estate division of Brookfield Asset Management Inc. . are interested in demolishing the stadium and replacing it with a new one in downtown Toronto, sources said Andrew Willis of The Globe and Mail. The two companies are working with government officials on a plan to halve the stadium as part of a refurbishment project. There are plans to build a new baseball facility at the southern end of the current stadium and to fill the northern part with residential towers, office buildings and other shops. Willis adds that a new facility on a lakefront is being considered. The Rogers Center renovation is expected to cost billions of dollars and requires numerous government approvals. According to Willis' sources, Rogers and Brookfield are expected to pay the renovation costs. The stadium originally opened as a Skydome in 1989 and cost $ 570 million. Rogers acquired the domed facility in 2004 for $ 25 million.
