Scientists warned Monday that an ice shelf containing a crucial Antarctic glacier could break open within the next five years, potentially adding dramatically to sea level rise.
A giant iceberg, the largest in the world, has broken off an ice shelf in Antarctica and is floating through the Weddell Sea, the European Space Agency said.
In its area (1,270 square kilometers) the iceberg exceeds the area of New York (782 square kilometers).
