Florida security guard Tyree Appleby left Florida’s first round competition on Friday after taking an elbow up his nose from Virginia Tech striker Keve Aluma.
Appleby left the game and was, according to Tracy CBS Sports brought Wolfson to the locker room with a crack in his forehead. His return is questionable.
Appleby is Florida’s fourth top scorer in 2020-21, averaging 11.4 points per game out of 36.4 percent of three. He reached six points and five rebounds before leaving on Friday.
Florida participated in the men’s tournament in 2021 as number 7 in the South region and entered the tournament 14: 9. The Gators were half way behind Virginia Tech at 33:27, despite having a 64-61 advantage in the final seconds. But the Hokies got through in the clutch before the time was up. Virginia Tech security guard Naheim Alleyne drilled a three by less than a second and sent the game into overtime after scoring Virginia Tech’s final 12 points.
Alleyne is working overtime, leading all scorers 26 points. Striker Colin Castleton leads the Gators with 14 points.
