The Jackson State Tigers and Southern Jaguars will battle it out in Week 8 of the FCS College Football Showdown at the Mississippi Veterans Memorial Stadium on Saturday.
The Jackson State Tigers won their first three games of the season before being defeated in their final game against Alabama State. The defense really struggled by 35 points in that final game and that resulted in a seven point loss. Two games ago against Mississippi Valley State, the offensive was 43-point elite and that resulted in a 36-point win. This led a team from Deion Sanders and in all three wins the offensive was elite. One problem in the last game was Jalon Jones’ quarterback play. Jones threw for 180 yards and a touchdown, but he threw two interceptions and the turnovers must be turned in that game. On the ground, Jones raced 22 times for 94 yards and two touchdowns.
On the other side of this matchup are the Southern Jaguars, who have played three games so far this year and won two games in a row. In the last game against Texas Southern, the elite were on the offensive by 51 points and that resulted in a blowout win. At the quarterback, Southern was led by Ladarius Skelton, who completed 11 of his 18 passes for 174 yards, two touchdowns and an interception. Skelton also rushed for 71 yards 14 times. Rashadd Muhammed also had a big game, running ten times for 64 yards, but he didn’t score any touchdowns.
