AUSTIN, Texas – Collecting a putt in match play can be tricky, and Dustin Johnson crossed that line on Friday at WGC-Dell Technologies Match Play.
Johnson’s birdie putt jumped 8 feet away on about a foot out and instead of waiting for his opponent Kevin Na to give him the par-putt he would have, the world’s number one tipped his ball back.

Johnson was not punished and the two players parsed the hole in half, but the incident could have rocked Johnson as if it were possible, who found a water hazard with his second shot on the 12th hole to find himself in a tie with Na.
A similar scenario occurred in 2019 when Sergio Garcia during his Quarterfinal match with Matt Kuchar returned a putt. The Spaniard missed the putt and lost the hole when Kuchar told him he hadn’t admitted it.
